Love your Borough Awards 2011

Another fantastic night at this years Waltham Forest Love your Borough Awards which was brought forward to April, and once again we were a gold sponsor for the event. The awards are to identify and honour the residents and council staff who's achievements through community involvement and civic pride have made Waltham Forest a better place.

The night was co-hosted by former sprinter and hurdler Kriss Akabusi MBE at the Walthamstow Assembly Hall.

Good Impressions sponsored the arts award which was won by the Waltham Forest Disability Resource Centre (DRC). The Waltham Forest DRC has an amazing group of disabled artists who have exhibited at the Changing Room Gallery and libraries. They take part in the Walthamstow Arts Trail, where members of the public are blown away by the talent. Many service users start art as therapy and the centre now has regular painting, drawing, craft, and digital photography groups.

We produced all of the advertising, invites, programme, menu, table stationery and of course, the crystal awards for the evening.

Barking & Dagenham Council wanted an innovative way of showing all the many events that happen in their parks throughout the year in an clear, concise way. After discussing various options with the client we felt the most appropriate way forward was to produce a publication that served a dual purpose. Not only will it list all of the events but also serve as a useful day to day calendar.

A set of custom illustrations were commissioned to identify the different events being held in each of the boroughs five parks.

Victorian Childhood

We have created the advertising poster for the Vestry House Museum's latest exhibition 'Victorian Childhood'. A great way to find out about the lives of children growing up during Queen Victoria's reign is in this revealing photographic exhibition.

This magnificent grade II listed building was originally built as a workhouse in 1730. Vestry House has since been a police station and a private house and is a perfect setting for an exhibition of Victorian life. Ranging from not only Victorian toys, books and holidays but also stories of real hardship and child labour, it shows both the joys and hardships of everyday life in those bygone days.

Plastic Fantastic

Due to the ongoing success of the previous recycling campaign we created for the London Borough of Waltham Forest the council decided to expand the campaign to include a range of other materials, including a number of plastics previously excluded.

Working with the council communications team we felt that the best way to show the range of items now included was to create a suite of illustrations that could be used over all the elements of the campaign from billboards, press ads, flyers and an information pack that has been distributed to every household in the borough.

The final design was both eye catching and informative, a successful outcome to a 'complicated' brief.

Established London law firm GTC Law came to us looking for a corporate folder to promote their conveyancing services at an up coming trade conference. The brief was to use their current branding and create a look which was approachable whilst highlighting their position as a market leader in the field.

We have made a great start to the year with an exciting book launch and exhibition.

Eastside Community Heritage asked us to design and print their latest publication, ‘Working Lives of the Thames Gateway’. The book is part of an ambitious 3-year project which collected over 260 oral history interviews with people who worked in a host of near-extinct/dying trades.

It accompanies an exhibition at London Guildhall Art Gallery and an education pack for schools, all of which we produced for them. For the exhibition we came up with the innovative idea of utilising the Guildhall’s unique windows as part of the display. Overlaying them with semi-transparent vinyl complemented the wonderful stained glass found throughout the Guildhall.

The launch was a great success with many people complementing us on the design.

Annual contract performance review

It's been a year since we became the first agency to win a sole supplier design and print contract for a London borough council. We have now completed the first annual performance review of our Waltham Forest contract and are pleased to announce we have made a financial saving of 27%.

This equates to a £250,749.00 saving against an advertised annual spend of £980,000.00

In addition to the financial assessment, we were judged on the our quality of work, how efficiently we delivered the service and any improvements we were able to proactively implement. We exceeded the council's expectations on all levels.

Chlamydia, hard to spell, easy to catch

Our Chlamydia campaign for three east London PCTs goes from strength to strength.

We have been recommissioned to revise the campaign to be used on buses, bus shelters, and tube stations throughout the boroughs. We are also producing a full range of promotional items for the campaign.

Speaking of promotional items we have launched our own Good Impressions promotional gifts website. In response to the demand for promo items and the volume of goods we were sourcing from third party suppliers, we have now become a distributor, cutting out the middle man and giving our clints even better value for money.

We have just taken part in Waltham Forest’s 'Love your Borough' awards and were proud to be the Gold Award sponsors for the Arts and Culture category. The event was presented by Sally Gunnell at The Assembly Hall in Walthamstow. The award was won by E17 Arts Trail and we wish them every success.

A view of the Thames

We are very pleased to have won the tender for the “River Thames - Source to Sea’ exhibition for Tower Bridge. The commission was to design and produce 30 panels to be displayed along the 60 metre length of the west walkway.

The exhibition pays tribute to the River Thames through stunning photography illustrating the peace, power, beauty and historical significance of locations along the river from source to sea.

Receiving excellent reviews from 'Time-Out', 'Metro' and 'The Wharf' along with a substantial increase to their visitor numbers – we had a very happy client indeed.

Ooooh, saucy

An interesting commission has come our way this month. It’s to come up with a theme for a new fast food venture called Saucy Pasta. Our team put their creative hats on and came up with a striking concept of photos of people and pasta in original and amusing settings. We have followed it through with a range of interior decor as well as promotional posters and leaflets and an email campaign. See our projects page for the interior panels.

We are pleased to have won the tender for London Borough of Tower Hamlet’s primary and secondary schools prospectus. The tender comprised of the design and print of two prospectus and distribution to all schools in Tower Hamlets. This allows us to show our strengths in all these fields.

We have just completed our rebranding of the Adult College of Barking & Dagenham. The rebranding is in keeping with their newly built site in Dagenham East. The new logo is a fitting new look for the college.

Fun and games

We have received a commission to design a poster advertising the new 'Victorian Games' promotion at Tower Bridge. Visitors are encouraged to participate in authentic victorian games set-up in various locations throughout the bridge.

We also produced an instructions poster for each of the six games. Running every school holiday throughout the year, it proved to be just as popular with the adults as the children. It’s surprising how good many of the old games still are.

We have been commissioned by Eastside Community Heritage to design and produce an exhibition for ‘Other Voices’ held in Belfast early last year. This groundbreaking exhibition shows, for the first time, people from both sides of the conflict coming together and sharing their experiences of those troubled times.

New William Morris design unveiled

We are particularly proud to have been commissioned to rebrand the William Morris Gallery in Walthamstow. The museum required a major overhaul including a new logo, signage both inside and out as well as rebranding all their publicity material. The resulting new look has been a great success. We are working closely with the gallery to promote their shows and exhibitions throughout the year.

Jump for Joy

Tower Bridge have asked us to design and produce display graphics for a Robbie Maddison exhib commemorating his spectacular motorcycle jump across the open bridge. At 3:00am on 13th July 2009 he performed a no-handed backflip before landing safely on the south side of the bridge.

The commission also included a new poster advertising the engine rooms (where the exhib is displayed), a motorcycle themed seaside style photo booth and advertising posters to be displayed at the roadside.
